Fugue

Collaborative, full-bodied happening in December 2023, Portland, Oregon, featuring artists Catherine Haley Epstein (scent), John Niekrasz (sound), and Lee Wilmoth (dance).

We are artists of disparate genres and approaches who investigate the creative process, interdisciplinary collaboration, experimental art based in multisensory experience, and informal performance; “happenings.” Our work explores uncommon materials, community/belonging in an age of isolation, instruments of wonder, anti-rigidity, and sensory intellect.

We smell things and move within a world where others also smell us and move with us. As performers, we are sensing - hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, feeling - no other art object can do that.

Scents and movements exist now and can linger forever (scent memory, muscle memory). Scent and movement manipulates time and space; they are portals.

This evening also featured art projects by:

Banana Phone (video installation)
Midnight Variety Hour (MVH) current members include Maura Campbell-Shun, Sean Christensen, Fern Wiley, and Lee Wilmoth

Briseida Pagador (poetry)
