Salon des Refusés (2021 - present)

There is a long history of using poor materials in art, where often the abject is the most effective communications tool. The care and keeping of the garbage for this project serves as an homage to the continual editing process artists must use: we must destroy in order to create and often have not thought deeply about the ideas and materials we throw away in the name of progress or completion. Unboxing of the garbage is a direct response to the vapid unboxing of perfume that is done with a nose in capitalist culture and mind fogged with ignorance for what art is.

This is an ongoing project with presentation in 2025, sign up for updates.

Unboxing

Video still of me unboxing garbage from Christophe Laudamiel’s studio in New York that he shipped to me over the last 18 months. There are thousands of vapid videos on the Internet of unboxing fragrance, where consumerism and the limbic system slam together to tickle viewers desperate for a hit of the next best new. Here I am unboxing used, old and discarded fragrant material that rivals commercial fragrance in its stunning, elegant and unrepeatable scent profile.

Engagement

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
