September 18, 2012 Repository 6: Echigo Tsumari Triennale Posted In: contemporary art, exhibition of note, japanese art

An artist friend of mine (American living in Japan), just sent me a link to this sprawling and seemingly massive exhibit of contemporary Japanese art. It is located two hours north of Tokyo in the Niigata Prefecture. Over 300 works are installed indoors and outdoors, as well as abandoned buildings. It sounds a bit like Kassel, Germany’s Documenta from an installation stand point. I’ll have to research the curatorial thesis and approach, but on first blush this Triennale looks worthy to plan for a 2015 visit!
